GS is an excellent repair and engineering crew, with a wide range of possible uses, and she sees significant high-level play. The most common use is as a repairer, as she is both the fastest crew in the game, and has strong HP and repair stats. She also has the highest Engineering stat in the game, and can make an excellent engineer. Lastly, while her attack is relatively low, her Freeze ability is strong, so with attack-increasing equipment, she can make a reasonably strong anti-boarder. She is often used for more than one of these roles at once.

In general, players will refer to Galactic Sprite as "GS" in chat. This can cause confusion with Galactic Succubus, another commonly used legendary crew whose initials are GS. However, as Sprite is the older of the two crew, her abbreviation as GS was already well established before Succ was added to the game.
