The Minigun is a 2x2 Weapon room that can be built on the Small Weapons Platform. The Minigun takes a large amount of time to reload, but the payoff is a continuous burst of damage that lasts up to 30 seconds.
The Minigun fires 50-120 rounds per volley to deal a total of 5-12 total damage for all of its damage types. There is a delay between rounds from each volley, so, for example, a level 1 Minigun will take 25s to launch all 50 projectiles. This mechanic allows the Minigun to suppress a room in a similar way to a fire, causing small damage over time and forcing Crew to repair it.
When To Use
The Minigun is one of the two options for the Small Weapons Platform, the other one being the Photon Phaser. Generally, the Photon Phaser is an anti-shield weapon whilst the Minigun provides additional system and Crew DPS, so the tradeoff depends on how effectively a player manages to disable their opponents’ shields. The Minigun does poorly against enemy shields due to how to spread out its damage is.
AI for rooms like the Minigun is relatively straightforward. As long as the Minigun's AI is targeting the same rooms in conjunction with the other weapons on a player’s ship, it should be fine.
