Summary
The Small Reactor is a 3x2 Reactor automatically built and unlocked at level one. It's the earliest and cheapest way of generating power for the player's ship. With the ability to build 3 Small Reactors at level 5, it also provides the most power out of all the Reactors. Thus, most, if not all players utilize the Small Reactor as much as they can.
Usage
Battle Mechanics
The Small Reactor will continue to provide power even when it's upgrading, EMP'd, or System Hacked. The Small Reactors health bars also influence how much power it generates, with one health bar representing one power. Reactors in general also have some hidden mechanics. The game forces the player to have at least one Reactor on their ship at all times. In addition, if no Reactors on the player's ship are at full HP, the game will automatically give the player a 0% Escape Rate, regardless of the Bridge.
In Combat
Small Reactors are a massive target for enemy boarders due to how much power they generate. Instead of wasting Crew potential by placing them in the Small Reactor, many players recommend placing Landmines in it instead. Separating them with Security Gates will also work. In general, Small Reactors should be accessible by all Crew and should have at least 2 blocks of Armor around them.
When To Use
There really is no reason not to use the Small Reactor. It's cheap and provides a lot of power, and the player will always benefit from extra power.
AI
The Small Reactor cannot be programmed with AI.
Crew Interactions
The Small Reactor cannot be buffed by Crew but can be repaired.
